Common Core: A look beyond the branding - courtesy of ASCD

Common Core and Meta-cognition!  YUP!!  Worth a read.

The problem with the movement to adopt Common Core State Standards lies not in its message, but in its branding, Heather Wolpert-Gawron writes in this blog post. The standards, which require teachers to incorporate into their teaching the 4Cs -- critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and communication -- and require students to think about and contribute to content rather than just regurgitate it, are anything but common, adds Wolpert-Gawron as she urges teachers to look beyond the terminology and find the innovation.
